If you take a look at the Chubbuck Police Department website, there’s a section on how to identify dangerous drugs. Somehow, they left off cocaine. It might be a good thing that the State Police were involved in a stop on I-86 near Chubbuck last week then. Because among the items seized were more than two pounds of cocaine.
It happened the morning of November 24th, as rush hour traffic (such that it is) was easing off for the day. A trooper pulled over a car in what is termed a “routine traffic stop.” That’s a misnomer, because both occupants were from California. Reading between the lines of the police report, it looks like Corporal Barnes became suspicious – the K-9 unit was listed as an assist. We can imagine the two, both over 50, standing beside their car as the magical dog nose did its work.
Along with the cocaine, police also found 2.7 pounds of meth and $900 in cash. No word on where the men said they were going. Looking at the map, it’s hard to figure out just what smuggling route would take you that way. Perhaps Pocatello was the final destination, after all, Idaho does have a methamphetamine problem.
The age of the men is interesting. You wouldn’t think of drug mules, or even dealers being 56 and 59 respectively. What’s the retirement age for drug dealing? Pushing 60 seems like a huge risk – a risk you might not live long enough to get out of jail.
Checking the Chubbuck Police Department website, we see methamphetamine is listed, but no pictures to identify it. The site states, “There are two varieties of meth - white and brown. Both varieties are found in powder or crystal form (crystals look like smaller, clearer pieces of rock salt).” No mention by the State boys about which variety was seized.
